The salmon fishing season in Tana starts on 1 June and lasts until 15 August.
We recommend fishing from 10 June to 30 July.

Travelling to Tana

Flights with both SAS and Norwegian from Oslo Gardermoen to Kirkenes. Flights take around 2 hours one way. Car hire available in Kirkenes – AVIS, Hertz and Budget. The drive from Kirkenes to Tana takes around 2 hours.

Salmon fishing

The main type of fishing in Tana is fly fishing. Rowing boats are available for hire. You can also fish with wobbler from a boat. Hotel Tana organises local fishing guides for guests.

Tana watercourse also has a number of wonderful tributaries in both Masjok and Laksjok. We kindly request all visiting fishermen to get to know the local, unwritten fishing rules and to respect other visiting fishermen and the locals.

Local fishermen/farmers also have the right to fish with barriers in Tana River.
This is an old tradition which is dying out. We hope that this does not provoke visitors and that our guests respect the strong, local fishing traditions for the Tana River.

Fishing licence

Visitors have to pay a fishing fee to fish in the Tana River. You can do this on the Internet or by post. All persons are obliged to disinfect their fishing tackle and waders in order to prevent the spread of Gyrodactalus Salaris. There are disinfection facilities at the Shell petrol station in Tanabru. A daily fishing licence must also be purchased. A 24-hour fishing period starts at 18.00 and lasts for 24 hours. Fishing licences are divided into different zones.
